Found some adorable Easter print fabric, so figured why not make some Easter gowns!

Am still waiting on a more feminine print to arrive, am keeping my fingers crossed but am quite worried it isnt going to show up!

Flannel Blankets

So i have had this brilliant idea to make flannel blankets!! What i am/was thinking i do not know! But i figured there needs to be something other than those horrid striped baby blankets you can buy in the shops

So i went a bought some flannel :-)

This is a special one, Breast Cancer awareness

This is the 90% finished product. I just need to press it and top stitch it then it is done, tonight my eyes are telling me it should really wait until tomorrow!

Minkee

I had a brilliant idea to make the boys some little minkee quilts for in the car during winter. Like a lot of things it seemed like a good idea at the time but minkee is not my friend!

Dont let anyone ever tell you that it is easy to sew with because it certainly hasnt been for me! Thankfully i seem to have sussed it out now and it is a little bit easier but i think i prefer plain old cotton any day!

So here is one i have started, ignore the double up of the same colour. I had all my nice neat little piles after laying it out and orgainsing it and i am guessing some little fingers got in there and muddled it all up! Its not the greatest job but minkee is not my friend! Its not finished yet, still have to add some more and then do the backing - am thinking some lovely lush flannel for the back

I realise that i haven't updated here in a very long time. My premmie sewing is going really well, i have currently donated 148 gowns to parents and hospitals around the country. That number is set to rise int he next few days as i have 24 ready to go to a SCN once i put the finishing touches on them.

well, ok i am on Facebook. I started my own little group on Facebook, i guess in a way to open myself up to more premmie families and their friends.

Has proved to be a wonderful thing, i am now in the very fortunate position to be able to help many more families and bring a bit of joy to their day.

Stay tuned for lots of projects over the next few weeks. Am starting a very exciting one tonight - very exciting!!!

Back in action

Well the break is over, time to fire up the sewing machine and get started on the first gowns for 2009.

I have lots of new fabrics that are all rather cute and am eager to hit good old spotlight in the coming week to see what *new* stuff they have in now.

So stayed tuned for lots of new gowns and a little change to them as well. Nothing big just a new addition to the gowns that is in the works.

Today the hospital held a thank you morning tea for all their volunteer knitters and sewers. It was wonderful to see that there are so many volunteers, donating their time for such a wonderful and precious cause. Although on the other hand it makes me sad to think that there are other hospitals and NICU/SCN's out there who have no volunteers or just a handful.

If only i knew which hospitals truly did need the extra assistance that volunteers bring, the extra happiness that dressing a sick or tiny baby in clothes can bring...i would be only too happy to dedicate time in making some of these little gifts for them as well.

It is truly, well and truly time that i now need to buckle down and get stuck into these Christmas Gowns. Otherwise they are going to be stored away until next Christmas.

So if you see me around the forums/facebook/loops, tell me off and send me back to my gowns!!! I have no idea how many i should or need to make so i am probably going way overboard but i guess it is better to have far too many than not enough, and well there are enough NICU's around the country that i am sure each and everyone one of them will go to a loving and very thankful home.

Now back to the sewing.....

A gift for Maxx

Little Maxx was born too soon at 25 weeks gestation. He is such a strong little boy, his Mum and Dad are also super strong!

These have been shipped out to his Mum today :-)

I wasn't too sure about including a Christmas one, i don't want it to seem like i think he will still be in hospital for Christmas. But on the chance that he is, he has a lovely festive gown all of his own and if he is home with his family then i am sure his Mum will be able to donate it to the NICU that has cared for her little boy.

Just a few to make sure they work for these NICU's as i am not 100% sure on the designs that they may use there. I am sure these bright little numbers will bring smiles to many NICU Mums and Dads

New Prints

I have just completed some gowns from some new prints i have. Well not entirely new as i have had the fabric for a little while but new as in just finished.

Now that i have lost my sewing area i am actually getting all the snaps sewn on rather than the easy task of sewing the gowns together!!!

More Christmas

With DH actually having a lighter week at work this week i have managed to get a little bit of sewing done. Not much but anything is better than nothing right.

So with it being only 7 weeks til Christmas i thought i would get stuck in and get some more Christmas gowns done.

Another little premmie, a little boy who was born at 24 weeks. I've been a bit slack in getting these ones out but they are jetsetting their way to his Mum as i type this.

Christmas gown number one is finished. I am just hoping i haven't left my run on the Christmas gowns too late but then it is only October....

I hope that some of these gowns will bring something special to Mums and Dads who will have sick and premature baby's in hospital on Christmas Day.

New Fabrics

These are some of my very cute new fabrics i have sitting here waiting to be cut up and made into gowns.

All is on hold ATM, school holidays and Mummy time just do not go together. Although it is all quiet here right now so hopefully tonight i will get some more cut out because the sewing them up is the easy bit!

Gone Overboard

Apparently!

According to the man around the house i have far too many gowns sitting around. With it being school holidays they probably wont be getting finished in a hurry. Plus now Ethan is quite unwell with a perforated ear drum (poor little guy!) So of course there are lots of cuddles happening right now, he has learnt how to lap it all up very well i might add!

Anyway, i scored a heap of gorgeous fabrics recently for a bargain price. So i hope tonight while watching TV to get them all cut up...although i still need to get inner fabric too. Ahh the story of my life, need more need more LOL

Turtles for Jack

Jack has pestered and pestered me for some turtles. Came across some rather funky turtle fabric which Jack absolutely loved!!!

Not too sure if i like the shirt or not but Jack thinks it rocks so that is all that matters right!

A delivery

Yesterday i made a delivery of a couple of gowns to the NICU. Not a great deal of them but every one counts

I managed to run out of snaps and couldn't find anymore anywhere! But i managed to find some yesterday so i will be able to finally get the gowns out to all the other hospitals!

I sat up tediously cutting out the appliqués for the tee. Wasn't as bad as i thought it would be but still tedious, especially with a baby who wanted to be awake all night rather than sleep.

I came across half a yard of the cutest fabric on the face of the earth. I knew i just had to buy it and then later on figure out what i would do with it.

Finally today, whilst the weather has been so nice i have put together a pair of gorgeous shorts for Ethan...yes i do actually sew for my kids LOL

I had to find something that would match for a top and found another piece of fabric from the same story that is just as cute.

So whilst it is sunny, the extra is out on the line drying so i can cut it up and appliqué it to a shirt tonight...all going to plan he *may* get to wear it tomorrow when we go down and see the farm animals visiting the local park.

And if you are wondering where the photos are...they are coming. Master Ethan is tucked away in bed and the camera is in the bedroom, we all know you NEVER wake a sleeping baby - especially when said baby is teething

A gift for Cael

Yet another precious little premmie, born too soon. I am on a premmie forum with Caels Mum and thought that some gowns for a little man would be the least i could do, hopefully to bring a smile to his Mums face.

The gowns are taking over

Everywhere that i look i see gowns, they are taking over the room. They are finished, almost finished, needing snaps, needing to be sewed. They are on the sewing machine, on the ironing board..actually taking up any free space i can find!

And of course now it is nice sunny weather, exactly the type of weather you do not want when you have a lot of sewing to be done.

But i have lots of important sewing to be done...another gift for a precious little premmie, although this time it is a little boy. I have gowns heading to Canberra, WA, SA, Melbourne, Brisbane and the prembaby organisation. And not to forget the ones that are going locally.

So my current project for the NICU has been put on hold, at least for another day. Another Mum on a forum had a prem baby so i have been busily whipping up some more little gowns for her little one.

Cant say too much or show the pics as yet but they are so cute...if i had a clucky bone left in my body i may just be tempted to cluck..add to that the fact her little one is so darn cute!!!

And of course with all this sewing, the pants i had cut ready to sew for Jack no longer fit!!! Typical, its taken so long for him to actually grow and now he is growing far too quick for me to keep up with!

Gowns for Emma

Recently a Mum on one of my forums delivered her little girl at 32 weeks. So i decided to offer her a set of premmie gowns as a gift from one prem Mum to another. These are the gowns i made for little Emma

They are currently jetsetting their way to her and now it is time to move onto my next project, i have 30 odd gowns that need to be finished to take to the NICU!

Craft swap

Ok so it isn't sewing but still crafty none the less.

I signed up for a craft swap on one of the forums i post on. Originally i had intended on sewing up some marvelous creation!! LOL Well obviously that didn't happen with all that has been going on with these boys of mine.

So i decided to make my swap partner an off the page project. I done one of these for Ethan to put all his hospital mementos in.

The Chibi Bunny

Jack has been sitting next to me whilst surfing around blogs. We came across a softies blog and Jack done his nana over the softies. So i hunted around to find something basic i could whip up for him with minimal fabric - not many leftovers these days! Anyway, we came across the Chibi Bunny and Kitty.

So i made him up the Bunny, it is so cute and he loves it! Not too sure on the face but his highness approves of it so i wont question it! And yes i do still need to stuff him!

Camo Dude

Dh wanted some camo stuff for his boys...typical male!

So here is what i came up with. The pants are so cute but the tank on the top just doesn't look right, even though everyone is telling me it looks like a tank. To me it just looks wrong.

DH likes it and Jack thinks it is cool, even though this one is for Ethan. So i guess the *tank* stays as it is...for the time being LOL

A trip to Spotlight

So all spotlight stores in Sydney were having a sale for the new store that is opening in Penrith. I needed some things as it was so figured heck why not go in and see if i can score any bargains. Well, of course nothing i wanted was on sale. Typical isn't it!! Although i will say there wasn't much on sale at all in there, but of course the store was packed. Never have i had to wait to be served there and yesterday it took forever...i don't think the screaming 2 year old helped the waiting situation either!

So we walked out with dinos, cowboys, jungle animals and of course Wiggles.

There is going to be lots of sewing this week...the weather is miserable so why not!

The Hungry Caterpillar

How gorgeous is the lovely Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric range that is out there now. I seen it and had to do something with it. So this is my effort...it will suit Ethan right down to the ground - he is a hungry caterpillar!

Am thinking of making a bandanna to go with it but not sure if that is taking it all too far or not. I have plenty of fabric left so figure i might as well do something with it.

Sewing for babies

So in my wisdom somewhere i decided that i would do some sewing for the premmie babies in NICU. You know that whole give something back feeling that we all get at times. So after putting it off for so long i pulled out the patterns and started sewing. After i completed the first one, i felt fantastic. A because it was easier to sew than i expected and b because it actually looked half decent!

So now i have been sewing up a storm. I have a nice little bundle of gowns that are ready for their snaps. Figure i would give myself something to do while Jack has his sleep study done this Wednesday night.

Now to make a visit to the NICU to give them their gift. I am sure they will be over the moon...might have to take Master Ethan along for the visit, i know they wont believe he is the same baby that was there just 7 months ago.
